10-Level Piano Lesson Curriculum Plan + editable template

$20.00

Take control of your piano studio with this structured, 10-level piano lesson curriculum—designed by a teacher, for teachers. Whether you use it as-is or customize it using the editable template, this resource helps you stay organized and intentional in your teaching.

I created this curriculum chart to guide my own teaching because I wanted more than just “whatever comes next” in a method book. Rather than letting a book dictate the sequence of learning, I believe piano teachers should have a clear plan for what concepts to teach and when. This curriculum gives you that framework.

With a big-picture overview of 10 progressive levels, you can map out your students’ learning journey, simplify lesson planning, and confidently choose the method books, supplements, and repertoire that best support your teaching style and your students’ needs.

This resource has been a game-changer in my studio—and I hope it brings that same clarity and ease to yours.

Each level fits on a beautifully-designed one-page chart and includes 10 different areas of essential piano learning, such as technique, sight reading, theory, etc. Get a peek into my teaching plan and use it to customize your own! Includes a pdf version of my curriculum plan as well as a word document template version that you can edit and customize.

Studio-licensed digital PDF download, 26 pages.

A Quick Note About This Curriculum Chart:

You’ll notice that the chart I’m sharing isn’t completely filled in—especially in the later levels. That’s intentional! In my own studio, I use Utah’s MTNA Achievement in Music (AIM) program as a curriculum guide to help fill in those sections. AIM is a fantastic resource that covers a wide range of musical skills and concepts, and I’ve noted in my chart where each level aligns with the AIM levels my students participate in.

If you’re a member of MTNA, I highly recommend checking to see if your state has a similar adjudication or achievement program. These programs are excellent tools for creating a comprehensive and well-rounded curriculum. Because AIM is a copyrighted program, I haven’t included it directly in this resource—but my hope is that you’ll adapt the chart to fit the programs and goals specific to your own teaching situation.

Even as-is, this chart is packed with valuable information and a thoughtful progression of concepts. I hope it gives you a helpful framework to build from—and inspires you to create a plan that works beautifully for you and your students.
