Steps for Super Sight Reading Handout

Teach your piano students some steps for super sight reading with this handout!

I like to guide my students through their sight reading by using specific steps, which are all included on this cute handout. The steps include Sneak Peek (we look through the music together to discover what is going to happen in the piece), Hands in Place (find both of your hand positions before you start playing), Play it in Your Head (just as children are often taught to sound out words in their head before reading them aloud, I like to have my students play the piece or a portion of the piece in their head before playing it for real!), Speed of No Mistakes (they play the piece slowly and carefully, trying to stay on the beat and not stop), and then Review Time (evaluate how you did on the piece, and if needed, try it one more time to go for note accuracy).
