Steps & Skips Strips Level 2

The Steps & Skips Strips are used to reinforce student’s knowledge of steps and skips and to practice directional note reading on the piano and on the music staff. Just like the first set, these feature an abbreviated staff with just 3 lines and 2 spaces, so students can learn intervals without worrying about naming any notes on the staff – they can start on any white key! The Level 2 strips include 5 notes each, making them more varied and difficult than the first set. Includes 39 different strips.

This is a great activity to introduce sight reading and a wonderful resource for beginning students of any age. I like to teach this along with landmark notes to my beginning students; it is an excellent alternative to teaching notes by mnemonics that will create great sight readers!

This resource goes along with the Steps & Skips Handout: The Basics of Reading Music. Send these cards home with the student after teaching steps and skips, and the handout can be sent home so parents can help practice correctly at home.
